1957 Porsche 356 Speedster 1600 Super

Numbers-Matching Super Engine and Transmission

Beautifully Presented with Date-Stamped Rudge Wheels

Exceptionally Well-Sorted and Mechanically Refined

Miller Motorcars Classics is proud to present one of the most iconic and desirable vehicles in motoring history, a 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster. This example is not simply a Speedster, but a factory-delivered, numbers-matching 1600 Super, Porsche's highest-performance engine option for the 1957 model year. Of the four engines offered, the 75-horsepower 1600 Super was the most powerful and, today, the most sought-after by collectors. Although exact production figures are uncertain, it is believed that only approximately 12% of all Speedsters were ordered with the Super engine, making this specification especially rare and hard to find.

This Speedster was delivered new through famed importer Max Hoffman in New York. While early ownership details remain unknown, records confirm its sale to its second owner, Tom Granich of Glassboro, New Jersey. Granich retained the car until August 9, 1963, when he sold it to his nephew, Thomas Moses, under the agreement that he would have first right of repurchase should Moses ever sell. True to this arrangement, Granich bought the car back on February 20, 1970. Unfortunately, during Moses's seven-year stewardship, the car suffered from neglect, prompting Granich to begin planning a full restoration with his son, Frank.

During this period, the Speedster traveled extensively with the Granich family, moving from Washington Township and Woodbury, New Jersey, to Scottsdale and Peoria, Arizona, and finally back east to Ottsville, Pennsylvania. It was there that Tom Granich passed away, bringing his restoration ambitions to a close. In 2001, his son Frank sold the car remarkably complete and in unrestored condition.

At the time of its purchase on August 13, 2001, the Speedster was approximately 99% complete and maintained in original condition. A full restoration commenced in December 2002, entrusted to the marque specialists at Specialty Cars in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The vehicle was fully disassembled to its bare chassis, with no component left unaddressed. Precision Motor Cars was then commissioned to complete all metalwork and paint preparation, after which Specialty Cars performed the meticulous reassembly.

The results speak for themselves. Shortly after completion, the Speedster captured First Place at the 2009 Burn Prevention Foundation Concours d'Elegance, followed by another First Place award at the prestigious 2014 Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance. Today, it remains beautifully presented, mechanically refined, and ready for immediate enjoyment or continued concours exhibition.

Featuring rare date-stamped Rudge wheels, a numbers-matching drivetrain, and a documented history, this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster 1600 Super represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest examples of Porsche's most iconic motorcars.

If a person writes a check without sufficient funds in an associated account to cover it, the check will bounce, or be returned for insufficient funds. Each state has laws regulating how merchants may respond to bounced checks. In Connecticut, the merchant may file a civil suit and press criminal charges if the check writer does not reimburse him for a bounced check after the merchant has sent several notices regarding the matter.

Posted Notice Requirement

Merchants and other business owners who accept checks must post a notice where customers are likely to see it warning them of the potential consequences of writing bad checks. The notice must include the civil penalties that bad check writers may face, the appropriate Connecticut statute number and an advisory that the check writer may also face criminal penalties

Civil and Criminal Penalties

As of 2010, civil courts may require the check writer to reimburse the merchant for the value of the check plus pay up to $750 if he has no back account or $400 if the check is returned for insufficient funds. If the merchant chooses to press criminal charges, the bad check writer may face a fine of up to $1,000 and up to one year in jail. Writing a bad check is a felony charge if the check was for more than $1,000 and a misdemeanor if written for a lesser amount.

Required Written Notices

If a check bounces, the merchant must send the check writer a letter by certified mail at the check writer's last known address or place of business. Usually this letter is sent to the address on the writer's check. The letter must inform the writer that the check was returned ask him to reimburse the merchant for the amount of the check and inform him of the potential criminal or civil penalties if he fails to do so. If the check writers does not respond to the letter within 15 days of receipt, the merchant must send a second letter. This letter must inform the check writer that he has 30 days to reimburse the merchant before the merchant takes legal action against him. Both letters must be written in both English and Spanish.
